Dear friends,

For generations, the people of Grassy Narrows have lived with the devastating impacts of mercury contamination in their waters, lands, and community. Their calls for justice have been sustained through decades of courage, resilience, and advocacy.

On
Wednesday, September 23, people from across Ontario will gather in Toronto for the River Run for Mercury Justice, a public march led by Grassy Narrows community members and supporters. We invite communities of faith across Southern Ontario to prayerfully consider joining this important act of solidarity.

As The United Church of Canada continues its commitment to right relations with Indigenous Peoples, we are called to listen, learn, and stand alongside those seeking justice. River Run offers an opportunity to witness publicly to our shared values of dignity, healing, and care for creation.

On September 23, Grassy Narrows is calling on Ontario and Canada to:

1.  Compensate everyone in Grassy Narrows fairly for the mercury crisis.
2.  Shut down the Dryden mill to end the ongoing pollution.
3.  End mining and nuclear waste plans that threaten Grassy Narrows.

As people of faith, we know that water is sacred. Water sustains life, connects all creation, and reminds us of our responsibility to care for one another and the Earth. We are invited to walk together in hope and solidarity, lifting our voices for justice and healing.
