Hi Ward 8,

Without jinxing things, it seems our prolonged winter is behind us, and summer is on the way.

The change in weather came just in time for the Lindsay Park River Cleanup last weekend, hosted by Community Associations from Cliff Bungalow-Mission, Erlton, and Rideau-Roxboro.

The Ward 8 team and my family joined about 40 volunteers and cleaned up garbage along the Elbow River downtown, followed by a great BBQ hosted by all three CAs.

The day was a huge success. The riverbanks and pathways are much cleaner, and my daughter was tuckered out enough for some afternoon quiet time (I think naps are now a thing of the past).

Why am I telling you this?

As the summer picks up, the Ward 8 Team wants to lend a hand wherever and whenever we can. Click this link to take you to a short application form to invite us to your Ward 8 community event. Once received, we’ll do our best to show up, say hello, and lend a hand if you need one.

Neighbour Day and Community Cleanup Days are coming up soon but are just the beginning of a busy summer of events, so we look forward to receiving more information about yours!

Recent Votes

Council meetings have had no shortage of important votes lately, and it’s important to me that you know why I voted the way I did on big issues.

I’ve put together short summaries of some recent votes along with an explanation of two Notices of Motions I put before Council that passed successfully that can be viewed now on the Ward 8 website.

The Ward 8 Team is working on a dedicated Vote Tracker that will soon be available on our website and updated regularly. If you have questions about other votes, big or small, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Rezoning

If you didn’t have a chance to chat with us about rezoning the links below will take you to my Council debate before the vote, information on the Ward 8 website, and a podcast episode.

2026 Community Clean-Ups

Each year, The City partners with community organizations and volunteers to host community cleanups – helping residents dispose of items that don’t fit in the black cart supporting a cleaner, safer city. All Calgarians are welcome at any community cleanup, regardless of where they live.

Community Cleanups are organized and run by community volunteers. Contact your local Community Association for questions about event details or to sign up to volunteer.

Calgary's Water Efficiency Plan

Calgary is a big city on two small rivers, the Bow and the Elbow. Using water efficiently protects the health of our rivers, reduces drought risk, and supports economic growth and quality of life for Calgarians and our neighbours

Calgary is now on a permanent lawn and landscape watering schedule which helps:

- spread water use more evenly across the week

- reduce stress during peak demand periods

- optimizes how existing water infrastructure is used

The schedule is not a water restriction, and the following activities are always allowed:

- letting your kids run through the sprinkler

- filling up pools, hot tubs and fountains

- washing windows and pressure washing decks, fences and siding

- watering plants with watering can or with a hose and spring-loaded nozzle

- watering food gardens

- watering newly planted trees, shrubs, sod and seed

Know your watering days:

Even street address (ending in 0,2,4,6,8) is Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday

Odd street address (ending in 1,3,5,7,9) is Wednesday, Friday, Sunday

Neighbour Day June 20, 2026

Neighbour Day is Calgary’s celebration of community spirit and connection. Held each year on the third Saturday in June, Neighbour Day is a step toward creating welcoming and inclusive communities where neighbours connect and belong every day of the year.

Bring your community together by organizing a block party, BBQ or gathering with neighbours. Permits for block parties and greenspaces are free. Apply by May 31, 2026.

You can submit your event to the City to have it listed on the Neighbour Day website, along with inviting the mayor, book a fire truck, access a guide to planning a block party, and more!
