Urban Forest Strategic Plan Engagement

The City is asking Calgarians to share their ideas on how they can support more tree planting on private property. About 70% of Calgary’s land is privately owned, meaning property owners play a key role in growing the city’s tree canopy. Check out their survey to give your input on how the City can encourage and support more trees on private property.

Urban Forest Strategic Plan | Engage

This is a piece to developing the City’s Urban Forest Strategic Plan that will provide clear, long-term direction for growing and protecting Calgary’s tree canopy.

The plan will help address ongoing challenges, including:

  • Tree loss due to redevelopment
  • Climate related events and changing weather patterns
  • Uneven tree coverage across the city

There are multiple in-person pop up events around the city to provide feedback and chat with the Engage Team, including one at MNP Centre TONIGHT (June 16) from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

Westbrook TOD

If you’ve ever asked, “what’s up with that vacant land at Westbrook CTrain Station?” then we’ve got some exciting news.

A new era for this site is on the horizon and now is your chance to tell us what you want to see.

Moving this project forward was a key part of my campaign platform and I’m committed to seeing work begin during my four years at City Council. This is an opportunity for us to create something that benefits our community and the entire city.

I can’t wait to see your vision for what comes next.

Ways to engage:

  • In-person on June 17 from 6-8pm @ Glendale / Glendale Meadows Community Association.
  • Virtual on June 24 at 7pm. Registration required.
  • Share your thoughts online by July 3.

Property Tax bills have gone out

The City of Calgary mailed approximately 600,000 property tax bills to residential and non‑residential property owners. Property tax payments are due OR you must be registered for TIPP by Tuesday, June 30. A seven per cent late payment penalty will be applied to any unpaid portion of property tax beginning July 1.

Haven’t seen your bill yet? Visit Calgary.ca/mytax to view it online or phone 311 to request it. All information about property taxes can be found at Calgary.ca/propertytax.

Did you know? The City collects property tax on behalf of the Government of Alberta. Of each residential property tax dollar collected, approximately 42 per cent goes to the Province, with the remaining 58 per cent supporting municipal services. You can view a detailed breakdown of how municipal property tax dollars are invested in City services by visiting Calgary.ca/taxcalculator.

Calgary Transit Summer Schedule start June 22

Throughout the year, Calgary Transit will review bus routes and schedules to see if there are areas where they can improve service. They take several factors into consideration, including feedback and ridership levels.

Routes affected in Ward 8 are:

  • Route 3 - Various stops along Elbow Drive S.W. will be closed to create a more even distribution of stops, providing faster, more optimized service.
  • Route 6 and 7 – School trips have been removed for the season

For more information on these and all route changes, please visit Calgary Transit Summer Service Changes
